Statement on the passing of Bill Bloom

WASHINGTON, DC (September 19, 2011) Bill Bloom created one of the most iconic American family seafood companies of the last forty years. From crab in the 1970s to shrimp in the 1980s and beyond, Bill grew Eastern Fish into a trading company that supplied premium seafood from around the globe to a hungry American market.

Bill became a member of the National Fisheries Institute in 1974, and he served as NFI Chairman more than a decade ago, a position held by his son Eric in 2008. Bill was an avid supporter of the Fisheries Scholarship Fund, a group dedicated to sponsoring research on the positive health and economic impacts of the seafood community.

Bills tutelage and high energy personality was also instrumental in the creation and growth of numerous seafood companies that prosper today. Bills industry leadership lives on in his family and in his commitment to quality, aquaculture certification and providing American families healthy meals.

The seafood community has lost an innovator, a tough business man and an advocate. Bill will be missed.

John Connelly
