Statement on the NOAA Appointment of Eric Schwaab

The National Fisheries Institute (NFI) congratulates Eric Schwaab on his appointment as the new Assistant Administrator for NOAA Fisheries

The National Fisheries Institute (NFI) congratulates Eric Schwaab on his appointment as the new Assistant Administrator for NOAA Fisheries.


Eric combines common sense with a science-based approach to fisheries management that will help the National Marine Fisheries Service as it takes on challenges new and old,” said NFI President John Connelly. “As a a member of the Marine Fisheries Advisory Council Eric demonstrated his problem solving ability and his knack for working collaboratively. We look forward to working closely with him.”


James Balsiger has been acting assistant administrator for NOAA Fisheries since February of 2008. In 2002 he was presented a Meritorious Award for sustained superior accomplishments in the management of U.S. government programs.


Directing federal scientists and regulators as they manage commercial and recreational ocean fishing is no small task and James Balsiger deserves our thanks for all of his work,” said Connelly.
