NFI hosts first live video chat with trade press via Eating Seafood Google+ Profile

December 6, 2011 Washington, DC As the year comes to a close, the President of the National Fisheries Institute, John Connelly, plans to take a few minutes online to Hangout with trade media on the latest social networking site to hit the web, Google+.

NFI is excited to be venturing into the latest social media platform and adding all of these new Google+ features to our online repertoire, said Christina McGinley, NFIs Communication Coordinator spearheading the Associations social media efforts. We will be continuing our focus on utilizing these new platforms to communicate with our members and the media in the New Year.

Google+, which launched this past summer, has already reached about 40 million users in just five months. As companies and organizations figure out how this new forum will fit into their overall communications strategy, NFI is diving in with its first Hangout, or online video conferencing session. A Hangout allows up to 10 users to see and hear each other in the same place and time through video chat on Google+, all for free. In the session, participants can view documents, share PowerPoint presentations, and edit and take notes simultaneously.

At the NFI Hangout entitled 2011 Seafood Year in Review, Connelly will discuss the biggest moves in seafood over the past year, as well as preview what to expect at the upcoming Global Seafood Market Conference in January.

Members of the trade media are invited to join the conversation during NFIs inaugural Hangout session, said McGinley. We anticipate spending about 20 minutes hanging out and look forward to a lively discussion.

The Hangout begins at 1 pm on Tuesday, December 13. To join the discussion, add Eating Seafood to your circles on Google+ and you will receive a Hangout invitation just before we begin.
