United States Files Claims Against Feed Dealers in USDA Livestock Feed Assistance Initiative Fraud Case
The U.S. Justice Department announced that it filed a False Claims Act suit against R&J Feed Co., Jerry Goodwin, Richard Carter and Carter Livestock Inc. for allegedly profiting from the improper exporting of millions of pounds of USDA-owned nonfat dry milk (NFDM) that has been designated for livestock feed. The complaint alleges the defendants falsely certified that they would use the NFDM to produce feed to be used by livestock ranchers in drought-stricken states. Tony West, Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division of the Department of Justice states. “We will pursue those who are suspected of seeking to gain financially by ignoring the programs rules and not honoring the certifications they make.”
