Guilty Plea in Alaska for Lacey Act Violations

The Justice Department announced the guilty plea of Jason Maroney of Juneau, Alaska for commercially purchasing halibut that was caught for subsistence purposes. This is a violation of the Lacy Act. Mr. Maroney pled guilty to purchasing for resale in his Juneau restaurant more than 4,000 pounds of halibut from two subsistence fishermen. One fisherman, David Skrzynski of Juneau, had previously pled guilty for selling the halibut. The second fisherman is now deceased. Sentencing for Mr. Maroney and Mr. Skrznski is scheduled for October 1, 2010.
