FDA Debars Importers Guilty of Fish Fraud
FDA published in the May 7, 2012, Federal Register debarment orders for David Phelps and Karen Blyth preventing them from importing food for a period of 20 years. Mr. Phelps and Ms. Blyth pled guilty to importing falsely labeled seafood that violated the Lacey Act and the Food Drug and Cosmetic Act (FDCA). The FDCA gives FDA the authority to debar from importing foods a person convicted of a felony relating to the importation of food into the United States.
