FDA Debars Importer Guilty of Fraudulent Mislabeling the Country of Origin of Shrimp

FDA published in the March 5, 2013, Federal Register debarment orders for Adrian Vela preventing him from importing food for a period of 5 years. Mr. Vela pled guilty to falsely labeling imported shrimp, a violation of the Lacey Act and the Food Drug and Cosmetic Act (FDCA). The FDCA gives FDA the authority to debar from importing foods a person convicted of a felony relating to the importation of food into the United States.
