CFIA Continues Short-Weight Inspections

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) alerted importers of fish products that per the Fish Inspection Regulations all frozen fish products must labeled to correctly reflect the net weight which must not include the weight of the ice glaze. It is the responsibility of importers to ensure their suppliers are following the Canadian regulations. In 2010, in response to concerns raised by the Fisheries Council of Canada, CFIA tested frozen products for net weight and found that short-weight labeling was a significant problem. CFIA will continue the investigation in 2011.
