Bellevue Man Sentenced Over Counterfeit Honey Imports
The Department of Justice announced the sentencing of Chung Po Liu, of Bellevue, Washington to one year and a day in prison, and six months of home detention as part of a year of supervised release, and $400,000 in restitution for counterfeit honey imports. Mr. Liu was changed in May 2009 for submitting false paperwork claiming that imported honey was produced in Thailand or the Philippines rather than China to avoid paying antidumping tariffs. In addition one shipment of honey was adulterated with an unapproved antibiotic.
In sentencing U.S. District Judge James L. Robart noted that there is an economic and a personal cost to committing this crime.
