Denver dining

I am finally home from FNCE in Denver, thoroughly unpacked, and partially over the multiple time-changes (I stayed up until a normal hour on Friday and Saturday, but last night I was physically in bed at 7:30pm – there was a little Madmen watching before actually falling asleep, but not much). In addition to the floor’o’food in Denver, I also ate with colleagues old and new at a few of the city’s delicious dining spots. Remember, my cool but cumbersome camera was here holding down the fort in Hawaii, so you only get the following descriptions of what I ordered:

Pi Kitchen and Bar (meal shared with seafood scientists – lots of fish ordered around the table)

tuna

Tamayo Modern Mexican (meal shared with former Tufts classmates – lots of sharing)

ceviche

shrimp

Sonoda’s Sushi (meal shared with a new dietitian friend from, coincidentally, Hawaii – we were both missing sushi)

maguro

I know it’s only been half a week, but I didn’t even blink while bringing up those menu selections. Wonder if my recall of what I ordered in restaurants while traveling ever goes away…Looks like for the most part, no.

Over the weekend we made a recipe-free dinner of pan-sauted mahi-mahi (rubbed with Penzy’s Northwoods); oven-broiled shallots, mushrooms, and asparagus (sprinkled with Penzy’s Herbes de Provence); and mashed Oki sweet potatoes to tide us over before a big grocery shop.

Now that we’ve accomplished that, today for the first time in two weeks, I have a supper plan. I truly miss cooking when I’m gone, and am looking forward to getting back in to my (semi-)daily evening ritual.
