This morning I was up at 4:30am in Hawaii to watch the live stream reveal of USDAs new food icon, MyPlate. This simple dish replaces the not-so-simple MyPyramid as the image to help Americans apply advice in the 2010 Dietary Guidelines.Where does seafood fit on MyPlate?In that purple wedge on the bottom right called Protein. The ChooseMyPlate.gov website says, Twice a week, make seafood the protein on your plate.

Since real food is much more memorable than colored blocks, heres my version of MyPlate, breakfast-style (consumed at 6am due to the early wake-up time) smoked salmon on a whole wheat bagel with a smear of low-fat cream cheese and kiwi fruit.
