salmon in Seattle part II

Tuesday morning I visited Trident Seafoods here on the Seattle waterfront and had the opportunity to tour their beautiful test kitchen.

They have racks and racks of meticulously organized spices and crumb-coatings to try as they develop delicious frozen fish products.
Then they store them all in the biggest freezer I have ever seen. The scale was hard to capture, but this is a giant frozen warehouse.
My favorite part of all was the Trident patio garden. They feed these plants Alaskan fish fertilizer. Despite the not-so-sunny Seattle weather, they were thriving. There were flowers, herbs for the chefs, and even a couple giant pumpkin plants out there. It made me a bit guilty seeing them, because Im sure my lanai garden at home is getting a little droopy while Im away.
Later in the day I met up with Lloyd. We swung through downtown Kirkland and stumbled upon the most glorious farmers market. I was so fascinated by all the beautiful produce that I couldnt even keep my focus for a photo.
We checked in to our hotel in Seattle, and spent the evening at Dimitrious Jazz Alley. We loved the dark ambiance, live music, and tasty food and drinks. It was the perfect was to ease into vacation mode.
Yesterday, we woke up and walked over to take a food tour of Pike Place Market. This was SO much fun.Open markets of this nature are about as good as it gets for both of us, but Pike Place Market is almost too overwhelming to enjoy at first. The tour really helped us understand the Market and focus on the must-taste spots. We ate everything from donuts to macncheese to clam chowder to chocolate-covered cherries. But we both chose the smoked salmon from the Pike Place Fish Company as our favorite.
Today we start our road trip South to Portland, OR.
