Street food
Most street food is both finger and fast food (two of my favorite things). Unfortunately, the cities I’ve lived in lately are pretty sparse in the street food department. Actually, a new article from the travel website WorldHum ranked the top eight best cities for street food, and no American destination made the cut. I can see why – the competition is stiff out there. Here are some seafood highlights from the streets:
-Fresh octopus with lemon from Palermo, Sicily
-Lobster, crab claws, shrimp, barracuda, octopus and skewers of flopping fresh fish from Stone Town, Zanzibar
-Tiny shrimp stir fried with their shells on from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
It was a bit pricier and slower than the real thing, but last night I ate a street food-inspired burrito from our favorite Mexican restaurant in town, Perro Salado. It was filled with big chunks of mahi-mahi, pineapple, and lettuce.
