Hawaii Food Tour
Yesterday I took the afternoon off to join my parents on the
Hole-In-The-Wall Hawaii Food
Tour – a exploration of what half a dozen of the best ethnic restaurants in
downtown Honolulu
have to offer. You may recall that my
parents in law took
this tour in March, and I’ve wanted to go ever since. It was captivating, as expected. At the end of the tour, as we munched on hot
malasadas from Leonard’s Bakery, we each discussed our favorite stops of the
day. My number one favorite was the Ying Leong
Look Funn Factory, which makes the most comforting handmade rice noodles. My favorite are infused with little bits of
shrimp.
My second favorite stop was the Sun Chong “crack seed” shop. Crack seed, as we
learned from our tour guides, is a genre of Hawaiian snack that includes various
preserved fruits, nuts, seeds, crackers, fish and candies. It was a feast for the eyes, especially the
dried fish section.
If you have the chance, I highly recommend this Hawaii Food
Tour. You get a true feel for the
culture of Hawaii
under the wing of two incredibly warm and knowledgeable tour guides. And the food is delicious.
