As the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) enters its first mandatory review period, the National Fisheries Institute (NFI) is proud to join the newly launched Agricultural Coalition for USMCA, a U.S.-led alliance of nearly 40 food and agriculture organizations advocating for the renewal of the agreement with targeted, practical improvements.
USMCA supports one of the most significant trade relationships in the world, with $1.9 trillion in goods and services traded annually. For the U.S. seafood industry, the agreement plays a critical role in protecting access to key export markets, supporting American companies and jobs, and strengthening domestic seafood businesses that rely on cross-border trade with Canada and Mexico.

From fishermen and processors to cold storage, transportation, and exporters, U.S. seafood companies depend on the certainty USMCA provides to plan investments, move product efficiently, and remain competitive in global markets. As policymakers begin the 2026 review, NFI and its coalition partners are urging the administration to preserve the agreement while making targeted adjustments that safeguard U.S. market access and reduce regulatory and trade uncertainty.
The Agricultural Coalition for USMCA is launching a national education effort, including advertising and a new website (linked below), to highlight the agreement’s importance to the American food and agriculture economy.
NFI is committed to ensuring the U.S. seafood sector has a strong voice throughout the review process and that USMCA continues to support American competitiveness, supply chain resilience, and economic growth.
