Providing science-based guidance on what to eat and drink to promote health, reduce risk of chronic disease and meet nutrient needs.
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) are issued by the U.S. Departments of Agriculture (USDA) and Health and Human Services (HHS).
Key Stats
The DGA strongly recommends that Americans of all ages—particularly kids and pregnant women—eat a variety of seafood at least 2-3 times a week.
The 2020-2025 DGA encourages caregivers to introduce seafood to babies beginning at 6 months and emphasize that eating seafood regularly provides benefits throughout life.
These include improved brain development for babies, heart health and strong bones for adults, and brain health for older adults.
