NFI Statement On Senate Catfish Vote

The National Fisheries Institute congratulates the Senate for taking decisive and bipartisan action in voting to disapprove the USDA catfish regulation.  The Senate action, supported by Senators from across the geographic and ideological spectrum, is the start of a process to save taxpayers’ money, eliminate duplicative regulations for small businesses, ensure markets remain open for American farmers, and retain seafood safety expertise where it has existed for more than 50 years, the Food and Drug Administration.

We look forward to the House taking action in support of this common sense policy and the President closing this chapter of regulatory overreach by signing final legislation.
